In the challenging terrain of the United Arab Emirates, the BMW iX5 Hydrogen has proven its mettle, showcasing strong performance under extreme conditions. The pilot fleet and introduced in February and recently underwent rigorous hot weather testing in the desert, where temperatures soared to 45°C, and the vehicles encountered sand, dust and varying gradients and substantial humidity fluctuations.

The fuel cell drive system, comprised of the highly efficient fuel cell system, two hydrogen tanks, electric motor, and power battery, demonstrated remarkable resilience and readiness. The central vehicle control unit orchestrated the harmonious collaboration of these components, ensuring optimal functionality even in the face of the harsh desert conditions. The Munich-based development team meticulously evaluated the electric systems' performance and the effectiveness of the cooling power necessary for the vehicle's full capability and maintaining the renowned driving dynamics associated with BMW.

The BMW iX5 Hydrogen, part of global pilot fleet, is actively participating in regions worldwide, including Europe and Japan and Korea and China, and the USA and the Middle East. This expansive testing aims to emphasize the practicality of hydrogen-powered vehicles in daily use and gather valuable insights for potential series production.
